Adapted for hardy release. Removed the obsolete powerpc data for hardy. I'm currently evaluation if and how I shouldinclude information about ports.ubuntu.com packages here. Since archive.ubuntu.com is currently unusableI use nl.archive.ubuntu.com as source for the data until the situation normalizes again.

The downtime today was caused by some yet undiagnosed kernel troubles aftera faulty hard disk was exchanged. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Google Software Package Downloads

Switched packages.ubuntu.com to the newer codebase that also runson packages.debian.org. The two most important changes for usersare that most pages are now generated dynamically (which makesfor faster updates and more flexibility) and that the searchfunctions should be much faster now.

Still waiting for a volunteer that optimizes the used stylesheets,I myself have not much talent in this area..

  • The hard drive of the server was replaced today after it began to actup. Most stuff should be up and running again. I accidentally deleted theinfo about new packages though, so that will be not reliable for the nextfew days.
  • Added edgy-backports to the homepage and the search forms
2006-10-29
  • Add feisty. The changes for the edgy release were already done some days ago.
2006-10-18
  • The 'Bug reports' links now correctly point to Launchpad for all packages. Thanks to all the people that reported this error to me.
  • I added an robots.txt to ban some people trying tomirror the site by means of wget -r. If forever reasonyou need to mirror the site please contact me by mail so we can dothis by other means that won't stress the server as much.
2006-06-12
Finally make dapper the default for searches and add edgy. Sorry for the delay.

I hope everyone had a good start into the new year. Some small statusupdates:
  • While looking at the log statistics I noticed that apparentlypackages.ubuntulinux.org also points to my serverwithout me knowing. I fixed the apache configuration so that it nowknows about that and handles it correctly.
  • Linking to a CSS file on the official Ubuntu homepagewas a bad idea and the page had some glitches when it disappeared. Most of the issues should be fixed by now.
  • Sorry for any performance issues with the site. My little serveris not always able to handle the many hits of this site (close to2,000,000 per month). I guess I will have to search for anotherhosting solution in the near future.
2005-10-13
Changed all defaults to point to breezy
2005-09-28
  • The contents files are updated again, so I removed any warningsand added the appropriate links back
  • The 'Check for bug reports' links now point to Launchpad foruniverse/multiverse packages. Suggested byj -at- bootlab -dot- org.
  • Finally, I migrated to the 'new' layout. Comments and Patchesabout the remaining quirks welcome.

I've merged the new changelog to HTML conversion code from the Debianbranch. I still have no idea how to handle the requests to link Ubuntubugs to the Ubuntu BTS and Debian bugs to the Debian BTS. Suggestionswelcome.
2005-08-30
  • I've added a warning to this site about the outdated Contentsfiles in the Ubuntu archive which make the contents search completelyuseless for anything after warty. I've actually no idea whom to askabout this since I don't seem to be able to find out on the Ubuntuweb site who is ftp-master in Ubuntu?
  • You can now also browse the packages fromhoary-backports
2005-06-10
I have begun to work on integrating the current Ubuntu web design withmy pages. There are still some issues to work out but as a teaser Ialready converted the front page. Feel free to mail me with commentson how I could use the new layout better.

hoary is released and now this fact is also beginning to show on thispage. Please report all errors you find with the new breezy pages.
2005-04-06
The transition should be completed by now and I've installed somerewrite rules so that old URLs should also point to the new location. The changelog extraction script is still running so there are stillsome (more) broken links. Please report all other problems you mightencounter.
2005-04-05
From tomorrow on this site will be available at packages.ubuntu.com.The necessary setup is done on both my side and on the side of theubuntu people but I will use the occasion for some configurationclean-up and a full rebuild. Stay tuned ;)
2005-04-02
  • On request of the MOTUs I've added links to the build logs forhoary packages.
  • Also, the Portuguese LoCoTeam (hmm, Ubuntu teams haveall very l33t names ;) asked mehow to translate the pages. Here my answer:

At http://cvs.infodrom.org/packages.debian.org/po/?cvsroot=debian.deyou can find some .pot files. Please translate them and send them backto me (You may want to take a look at the translations available athttp://cvs.debian.org/webwml/portuguese/po/?cvsroot=webwmlespecially for files like langs.pot). This will ensure that at leastthe constant strings on all the pages are translated (Some of thestrings in these file are only needed on packages.debian.org)

The translations of package descriptions I took from the DDTP (DebianDescriptions Translation Project) which seems to be rather inactivelately. Unless this is fully revived or another similar project iscreated there is little I can do on this front.

  • Thanks to all people that provided me with positive feedback aboutthese pages.
2005-03-02
I talked briefly with Daniel Silverstone of Canonical atFOSDEM. He said that Ubuntuwill get his own Packages page, but It will be a while.
2005-01-24
In the last two days there were several reboots of the serverneeded (kernel upgrades, activation and testing of a new rescuesystem). Sorry for any inconviences this caused.
2005-01-11
There are changelogs and copyright files available now. I alsoadded links to the Ubuntu bugzilla, but I'm not sure yet that theywork completly. Feedback welcome. (Changelogs and copyright filesmay be missing for some packages since I can only mirror thei386 and powerpc debs due to space constraints)
Google Pack logo

Google Pack was a collection of software tools offered by Google to download in a single archive.[1] It was announced at the 2006 Consumer Electronics Show, on January 6. Google Pack was only available for Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7.

In September 2011, Google announced it would discontinue a number of its products, including Google Pack.[2] Google Pack is no longer available for download.

You can even use your physical keyboard to type on your phone, if you fancy it, though we’re not sure how useful that will be in this case.

Available applications before discontinued service[edit]

Users could choose which of the following software applications to install. If the application was already installed, Google Updater checked to see if the user had the latest version and upgraded it, if necessary.[3]

The software applications that were available to download depended on the language, locale, and operating system.

Google-branded[edit]

  • Picasa, a photograph organizer and editor
  • Google Toolbar for Internet Explorer
  • Google Photos Screensaver, which displays pictures from the user's computers
  • Google Earth, an electronic globe
  • Google Talk, an instant messaging and Voice over IP (VoIP) application
  • Google Video Player, a multi-media player, now withdrawn
  • Google Chrome, a free web browser developed by Google

Mac Software[edit]

Third-party[edit]

  • Mozilla Firefox with Google Toolbar
  • Spyware Doctor with Anti-Virus
  • Adobe Reader, a document viewer
  • RealPlayer, a multi-media player
  • Skype, a VoIP application
  • Immunet Protect Antivirus
  • avast! Free Antivirus
  • WebM for IE9

In March 2007, Google added two new applications to the Google Pack: Spyware Doctor Starter Edition and Norton Security Scan.[4] These programs were free and did not require a subscription, unlike Norton AntiVirus. However, Norton Security Scan does not offer continuous protection against viruses. Norton Security Scan scans the computer and identifies if there are existing viruses, worms, spyware, unwanted adware or Trojans residing on it.[5]The program's functionality is similar to Microsoft's Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool.

Google has stated they have no monetary agreement with the makers of the above software and they offered the applications for the ease of Google's customers. They didn't receive any payment for providing the software pack[6], although Miguel Helft in his New York Times blog reported that an unidentified source[7] stated that Google may pay Sun for each copy of StarOffice. StarOffice was no longer part of Google Pack since November 2008.

Google has included the VoIP application Skype in the pack, even though it is a competitor of Google's own Google Talk.[8]

Some industry observers claimed that the release was little more than a collection of software 'that Google's wrapped a rubber band around'.[9]

Former third-party before discontinued service[edit]

  • GalleryPlayer
  • Norton Antivirus Special Edition 2005, which included a 6-month subscription
  • Norton Security Scan
  • StarOffice, a productivity suite that includes a word processor and spreadsheet
  • Spyware Doctor Starter Edition

Google Updater[edit]

Google Pack came with Google Updater as a package management system to assist in downloading, installing, removing, and automatically updating the Pack's applications. https://mac-studio-fix-foundation-shades-chart4.peatix.com. Updater could be uninstalled without removing the applications.[10]

Google Updater is an application by Google, a company that has always looked for usability above everything else. When all the main search engines started to create web portals, Google kept working with a minimalist and fast home page. Their mail server is excellent and with Google Updater, the only thing that they are looking for is to make it easier for users to use any kind of software.

Get hold of Google's essential tools for your PC

This is a tool that, as well as allowing you to install a large number of essential programs, detects many others to help you to maintain them updated at all times. The majority of these programs will be Google programs like Chrome, Picasa, Google Earth, and Google Desktop, but you'll also be able to find antiviruses, plug-ins for browsers, document viewers,..

The most important utilities that any Windows operating system may need as soon as you install it, are covered by Google Updater. So if you want to automate the entire download, installation and update process, Google Updater will allow you to do so with a few clicks.
