Switched packages.ubuntu.com to the newer codebase that also runson packages.debian.org. The two most important changes for usersare that most pages are now generated dynamically (which makesfor faster updates and more flexibility) and that the searchfunctions should be much faster now.

I hope everyone had a good start into the new year. Some small statusupdates:

• While looking at the log statistics I noticed that apparentlypackages.ubuntulinux.org also points to my serverwithout me knowing. I fixed the apache configuration so that it nowknows about that and handles it correctly.
• Linking to a CSS file on the official Ubuntu homepagewas a bad idea and the page had some glitches when it disappeared.Most of the issues should be fixed by now.
• Sorry for any performance issues with the site. My little serveris not always able to handle the many hits of this site (close to2,000,000 per month). I guess I will have to search for anotherhosting solution in the near future.

  The translations of package descriptions I took from the DDTP (DebianDescriptions Translation Project) which seems to be rather inactivelately. Unless this is fully revived or another similar project iscreated there is little I can do on this front.

Google Pack was a collection of software tools offered by Google to download in a single archive.^[1] It was announced at the 2006 Consumer Electronics Show, on January 6. Google Pack was only available for Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7.

In September 2011, Google announced it would discontinue a number of its products, including Google Pack.^[2] Google Pack is no longer available for download.

In March 2007, Google added two new applications to the Google Pack: Spyware Doctor Starter Edition and Norton Security Scan.^[4] These programs were free and did not require a subscription, unlike Norton AntiVirus. However, Norton Security Scan does not offer continuous protection against viruses. Norton Security Scan scans the computer and identifies if there are existing viruses, worms, spyware, unwanted adware or Trojans residing on it.^[5]The program's functionality is similar to Microsoft's Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool.

Google has stated they have no monetary agreement with the makers of the above software and they offered the applications for the ease of Google's customers. They didn't receive any payment for providing the software pack^[6], although Miguel Helft in his New York Times blog reported that an unidentified source^[7] stated that Google may pay Sun for each copy of StarOffice. StarOffice was no longer part of Google Pack since November 2008.

Google has included the VoIP application Skype in the pack, even though it is a competitor of Google's own Google Talk.^[8]

Some industry observers claimed that the release was little more than a collection of software 'that Google's wrapped a rubber band around'.^[9]

How to Install 3D CAD software?

To use a keyboard shortcut, press and hold one or more modifier keys and then press the last key of the shortcut. Cut, copy, paste, and other common shortcuts

Sleep, log out, and shut down shortcuts

In this guide I explain how to repair damaged keys on a MacBook Pro keyboard (unibody style).

In this particular case I’m fixing a MacBook Pro 13-inch laptop keyboard with two damaged keys but same steps will apply to MacBook Pro 15-inch and MacBook Pro 17-inch models.

If you have a few keys missing or damaged, it might take sense to buy the entire new keyboard instead of individual keys and use it as a donor.

By the way, in one of the following posts I will show how to replace the entire keyboard on a MacBook Pro 13″, 15″, 17″ unibody.

As you see, I have two damaged keys on the MacBook Pro keyboard.

The left arrow key missing just the cap.

The bottom arrow key missing the cap, key retainer (hinge) and silicone plunger.

You will need needle nose tweezers to handle small parts.

Let’s fix them!

STEP 1.

Remove the key cap from the damaged (donor) keyboard.

In order to do that insert a sharp object between the key cap and key retainer and lift it up.

The key will unsnap from the retainer.

STEP 2.

The left arrow key cap removed.

STEP 3.

Turn the key cap over and inspect small plastic key holders on the bottom side of the key. Make sure they are not damaged.

These holders secure the key cap to the retainer (hinge).

When you install the key cap on the retainer, make sure to seat the side with holders on the edges of the key fist.

In my case the left side of the key cap should be seated properly.

STEP 4.

Seat the side with holders on the edges of the key fist. Make sure the holders engage with the retainer.

STEP 5.

Push on the button until it snaps on the retainer.

STEP 6. Macbook pro 2009 latest os.

The left arrow key has been repaired.

Make sure it moves freely.

Now let’s fix the bottom arrow key.

STEP 7.

Remove the bottom key from the donor keyboard.

Inspect the bottom side of the key, make sure that holders are not damaged.

STEP 8.

Carefully remove the key retainer from the donor keyboard.

STEP 9.

Inspect the retainer. Make sure it’s not damaged.

STEP 10.

Here’s the tricky part.

Very carefully separate the silicone plunger from the donor keyboard.

Try to remove it from the keyboard as clean as possible, so the bottom side of the plunger remains as flat as possible.

You can use a very small knife to separate the plunger from the keyboard.

STEP 11.

On my target MacBook Pro one of the metal hooks was bent so I corrected the problem.

STEP 12.

Turn the silicon plunger upside down.

Apply a small amount of super glue on the plunger edges. You need the glue just on the edges.

The first time I wasn’t careful enough and the glue filled up the plunger. I had to use another one.

STEP 13.

Seat the plunger in the right position on the target keyboard and let the glue dry.

At first, I tried applying some pressure on the plunger but it didn’t work, because the plunger just kept moving around.

Finally, I just reapplied the glue and let the plunger to seat by itself for about 10 minutes without applying any pressure on it.

STEP 14.

Install the key retainer on the target keyboard.

STEP 15.

Install the bottom arrow key as we did in steps 3-5.

Make sure the key moves freely.

The keyboard has been fixed!

If you’ve used Windows you know that Ctrl + Alt + Delete—now “Ctrl + Shift + Delete“—is what you do when things aren’t going as expected. Like when you go to launch a program and you get a never-ending loading bar. Or when you’re browsing a webpage and the entire browser locks up. Or when nothing works right because you’re using a Windows PC and not a Mac.

But truth be told, even our shiny iMacs and our unibody MacBooks experience some not-so-smooth sailing. On a Windows PC you press three magic buttons to access the Task Manager. Here you can view running applications and processes and end them. But where are the three magic buttons on a Mac?

How to Ctrl Alt Delete on Mac

Turns out they are there—three magic buttons just like Windows. Command + Option (Alt) + Esc.

Pressing these three buttons simultaneously opens the “Force Quit Applications” window. Here you’ll see all your running applications and a button that says “Force Quit.”

Simply select the application(s) you want to go nuclear on and click “Force Quit.” Your Mac will take care of the rest.

Pro Tip: You can close multiple apps at once. To select a range of apps hold shift and click the starting and ending apps in the list. To select individual apps, hold command and select the apps you want to close. Then just click “Force Quit.”

Task Manager for Mac

Of course Windows also lets you view running processes in the Task Manager. What about Mac? Because Mac is Unix-based you could fire up the Terminal app. Or you could save yourself some work and open the Activity Monitor app.

Activity Monitor is a fantastic tool. You can view which processes are taking up the most memory, the most processing power, and even the most energy. You can also view disk and network statistics. The bottom of the window even provides a visual representation of the numbers.

If you ever hear your fan running faster than normal—or notice lag within your apps—Activity Monitor can help you identify which apps are hogging resources; and, even shut them down as needed. Just remember to be careful when closing processes and applications. Especially if you’re not sure what they do.

Click the headings to sort processes. When you want to end a process, you can use the force quit icon in the top-left of the window (it looks like a stop sign with an “x” in it). Just select the process you want to end and click that force quit icon.

Of course there’s always more than one way to bake a cake. Other “Windows Shortcuts” on Mac

Here are a few other commands you might want to use that translate a little differently on macOS.

Formatting: Bold, Italic, Underline (Ctrl + B, I, or U)

Make a statement. Whether you’re using Pages or writing a quick email. Generally copying and pasting is pretty straight forward.

Command + B for bold, Command + I for italic, or Command + U for underline.

In-Browser Zoom (Ctrl + “-“ or “+”)

In Web browsers and some other applications you can zoom by holding Command and pressing either the plus (+) key to zoom in or the minus (-) key to zoom out.

In many apps—if you have a trackpad or Magic Mouse—you can use pinch-to-zoom to adjust the zoom. Usually Command + 0 will reset the zoom level.

Undo (Ctrl + Z)
